When did this obsession take root? Faux wood is everywhere: throw pillows, boxer shorts, magazine spreads, websites.
Some applications are wonderfully kitchy, others quite elegant. Nature is intrinsically beautiful so protect it from being over used in an artificial fashion. Create and purchase with purpose; going with the grain can be grand, but going against it may be even better.

One could make a case for the wood-paneled station wagons of the 70s as an early knot so hot application. My family had this pretty thing when I was growing up.
I beg to differ. Similar to petrified wood, grain applied to cars gets better with age. What was perhaps tacky at the time now fits right into the retro category. I’d like to see one of those cars featured in a print ad. I remember one being used in an Old Navy tv ad.
