250,000 brightly colored superballs let loose on the streets of San Francisco. A 12-year old’s fantasy? Could be, but it actually is the story behind a commercial for Bravia, a new line of LCD Televisions by Sony.

The shoot for the ad happened in front of a blue sky, not a blue screen. Witnessing real movie magic, rather than digitally-manipulated magic is enchanting. In addition to its authenticity, the commercial is effective because it speaks in whispers; the brand and product are quietly revealed at the end. Overall the piece feels more like a music video than an opportunity to hit the kitchen to grab a snack between prime-time programs. The tone of the music, Heartbeats covered by Jose Gonzales, could not be more fitting.

This advert, as the Brits say, is so far only airing in Europe. (I’m not sure why since the concept has universal appeal.) Click here to see enjoy it on the net. Don’t bounce without clicking on “Behind the scenes” to watch “the making of” featurettes.
