The balance usually struck between good design and great TV was disturbingly absent this week. Earth to Kors and Garcia: Marla must go. She has done consistantly poor work from the beginning. This week her unoriginality hit peak (see right pic). Her stint on the show should have been halted by the Hilton. Granted, Guadalupe’s dress (left) looked like her model went dumpster diving, but the originally of the piece is not in question.
It looked a bit like something Issey Miyake would have made when he was first learning to sew. I can’t sleep at night knowing that contestants who present weaker concepts and construction are being repeatly selected over those designers who just had a bad week. I’d love to see a show like PR that more accurately depicts the design process, and scores the overall promise of an artist.

Hear, hear! I agree that originality trumps the “worst dressed list” any day. Guadalupe’s design was juvenile and unsophisticated with an Avril Lavigne arm band, but there is no excuse for Marla’s fashion plagiarism. At least Guadalupe had the confidence (and skill) to pursue her own vision.
And it gets worse — by the previews it looks like Marla won’t go next week either. eek.
